What Is the Good News of The Kingdom?
To answer the question, “What is the good news of the kingdom?” we should understand its core message. The Good News, is the message of salvation through Jesus Christ. It is the proclamation of God’s love for humanity, demonstrated through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus. Throughout the New Testament, the writers emphasize this message of hope, redemption, and eternal life through faith in Christ (John 3:16, NKJV).[1]
Jesus proclaimed the Good News, calling His followers—and all people—to listen to the message of “peace, hope, truth and deliverance”.[2] People around the world need this news of peace and hope as they live in poverty, struggling to provide for their basic needs. GFA World trains and sends national missionaries who serve as the hands and feet of Christ, meeting tangible needs in impoverished communities. We do this in four ways: sponsoring national missionaries, sponsoring children, investing in community development and helping families during disasters.[3]
One person who felt this peace and hope was Kalla. Her two sons and her sons’ families all lived in the same house with her and her husband, and there was a lot of conflict in the home between the men. On top of all that, Kalla suffered from body pain, weakness and diabetes. The medicine she had wasn’t working, and with the family’s financial circumstances, hunting for better medical treatment could push them further into destitution. Between the discord in her family and her aching, painful body, the 80-year-old’s life had no peace.
Then, Kalla heard about a medical camp that would be held nearby. And it would be free! A doctor saw Kalla, offered advice and gave her free medication. She also met one of the organizers of the medical camp, a GFA-supported pastor, who was walking among the attendees, offering words of love and care and extending invitations to upcoming Sunday services. Kalla attended Sunday service and felt happy as the atmosphere of love resonated in her heart. After she talked with the pastor and shared her troubles, he encouraged her and prayed for her. Then Kalla opened her heart to the Lord. Through the medical camp, Kalla received the medical help she needed and found something infinitely better: God’s unfailing, eternal love.[4]
