What Does the Bible Say About Sharing the Good News of Jesus?
The Bible has a lot to say about sharing the Good News of Jesus. The Great Commission is repeated four times, and much of the history of the New Testament is about believers bringing the Good News with them as they spread out in “Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth” (Acts 1:8, NKJV). This Good News is a message of love and peace. Jesus said, “Peace to you! As the Father has sent Me, I also send you” (John 20:21).[1] Thus, believers today are sent to share God’s love and peace with those around us, just as Jesus was sent to us.
One third of the world’s communities are still waiting to experience Christ’s love for the first time.[2] Many of them live in Africa and Asia, where GFA World is working to show God’s love by meeting the physical needs of the people on those continents. Through helping children, uplifting women, offering free medical care and providing clean water, our national missionaries show how deeply God loves and cares for people.[3]
One woman who felt the impact of this care was Palila. Her mind was full of worries that her three children would not be able to receive a proper education. Palila’s husband worked hard as a day laborer in the agricultural fields nearby, but his meager wages were not enough to fully support the family. Palila knew she needed to do something to bring in more money, but what?
A GFA pastor also lived in Palila’s village, and he heard about her family’s financial struggles. He was able to arrange for Palila to receive a sewing machine at a GFA gift distribution. The gift was a beautiful symbol of hope and possibility. Palila used the machine to repair items for her fellow villagers and earn an income. After just one year, her earnings, when combined with her husband’s wages, provided enough additional money to fully support her family. They could afford the tuition costs for their children to attend a good school, setting them up for bright futures, and the financial stress on the family was relieved. Through the simple gift of a sewing machine, Palila was able to provide for her family and experience the love of Jesus.[4]
You can help share the Good News by providing a sewing machine like Palila’s for just $100. For $75, you can gift vocational training to a person, opening the door to a better job and an escape from the cycle of poverty.[5] These things are very significant and they show how much God loves people, helping to answer the question, “What was the good news that Jesus preached?”
