Who Are Some Christian Female Missionaries?
In the world of missions, Christian female missionaries have always been a unique source of love and care. Priscilla and her husband, Aquila, became friends with Paul in Corinth. They traveled to Ephesus with him, and when Paul moved on, they stayed there, establishing a church in their home and helping teach Apollos (see Acts 18). This was a truly loving and faithful husband-and-wife team.
Another married ministry duo were Adoniram and Ann Judson. By working with her husband to share the Good News with the people of Burma (Myanmar) for forty years, Ann became the first American woman missionary. Amy Carmichael, an Irish missionary, dedicated almost half a century to serving in South Asia. Despite health challenges in her later years, she remained committed. Meanwhile, Gladys Aylward, a British missionary, spent forty years in China, focusing on leprosy care near Tibet and eventually establishing an orphanage in Taiwan.[1]
These women and their love for the people of the world are inspirational for missionaries today. GFA World supports female national missionaries, who help relieve the pain and suffering of women in Asia by introducing them to the love of the Lord Jesus Christ.[2] Some of our missionaries are the Sisters of the Cross. These specially trained women have a deep burden to show Christ’s love by physically serving the needy, the underprivileged and the poor. They participate in leprosy care, family counseling, hygiene education and other practical ministries. They wear humble, handspun garments, and these traditional [uniform] mirror the clothing worn by the lowliest servants in Asia. This demonstrates their desire to serve the needy without thought of personal gain.[3]
In one village, the aging men and women struggled to care for their everyday needs. Despite their advanced years, some of them still worked hard to support themselves, having no pensions or retirement plans to live on. Others were unable to walk or stand, preventing them from working. A group of GFA World’s Sisters of the Cross saw the condition of the elderly villagers, and their hearts were moved by their plight. So they sought to care for the older people. The Sisters trimmed fingernails, massaged weary muscles and prayed for them. This love and care brought tears to the eyes of the elderly as they thanked the Sisters, deeply moved that these women would show love to them in this way.[4]
Consider partnering with us to support these Christian missionaries in Africa and Asia. You can be part of the ministry of the Sisters of the Cross, other women missionaries and national missionaries in general. It just takes $30 a month to sponsor a missionary and help them share God’s love.[5]
