How Will Africa Christian Medical Missions Address the Physical and Spiritual Needs of Impoverished Families?
Africa Christian medical missions are a new area that GFA World is exploring. We have spent more than 40 years in Asia sharing the love of Jesus Christ and addressing the needs of the poor. With our long history of service on that continent, GFA has touched many people’s lives through initiatives to provide clean water, education for children and care for the marginalized. Recently the Lord opened the door to ministry in Africa, specifically in Rwanda, where our work can change the lives and communities of the people.[1]
Africa is the largest continent, with over 1.5 billion people living in 54 countries. Sixty percent of the population is under the age of 25,[2] many of whom are trapped in the cycle of poverty, which often persists from one generation to another. Throughout these countries, there is a huge need for life basics, such as health care, water and education. In cities like Kigali, the capital of Rwanda, impoverished people face several problems, beginning with water shortage and the absence of medical facilities.
GFA World’s operation in Rwanda, which started with a child sponsorship program among the impoverished of Kigali, is a significant step towards providing for these critical needs. This program enables us to address vulnerable children’s health, education and welfare issues. With the help of our program staff and volunteers, we supply these children with the necessities of life and do so in the name of Christ.
Our expansion to Africa results from a significant amount of prayer and planning as the Lord opened the door. We will be able to sustain this work by training local leaders and by building strong community partnerships. Not too far from now, we will be extending our efforts in Africa from Rwanda to six other nations. We intend to set up clean water projects, medical camps, educational programs and women’s empowerment programs. We want to break the cycle of poverty and make a significant difference in the lives of individuals and their families.[3]
The essence of GFA World’s calling is to show Christ’s love in word and in deed. It is a privilege to continue this mission in Africa, where many people require both spiritual and physical healing. Rwanda is just the beginning, and we are excited for what God has in store for the years to come as we strive to improve the lives of others and share the love of Christ with them in every way.
