Bible Verse About Giving to Others

What Are Some Bible Verses About Giving Food to Others?

We find several Bible verses about giving food to others throughout Scripture. One of the most significant examples is Jesus feeding the 5,000, which is the only miracle recorded in all four Gospels (Matthew 14, Mark 6, Luke 9, John 6). Starting with just five loaves and two fish from a boy’s lunch, Jesus miraculously fed as many as 15,000–20,000 people (including the women and children with the 5,000 men mentioned), with “twelve baskets full of fragments and of the fish” left over (Mark 6:43). God didn’t merely provide, He provided abundantly and lavishly.[1]

Jesus fed those people in the Bible, and He cares about feeding people today. Although things have improved over the years, malnutrition is still a major problem in many countries all over the world. A lack of proper nutrition in early childhood leads to stunted growth and other impacts over a lifetime. One study shows that being stunted at two years old was associated with leaving school 3.14 years earlier compared to non-stunted peers.[2] Women who were stunted at two had a 42% higher chance of living in poverty than non-stunted women.[3] When parents can’t feed their kids, those children cannot focus or succeed in school, leading them to remain poor as they grow up, unable to feed their own kids. Thus, the cycle of poverty continues.

GFA World believes that God still provides, like He did for the 5,000. Though the scale of world hunger today seems insurmountable, we should give and do what we can in faith, expecting that God can and will use our offerings in a way that exceeds what seems possible. GFA gives, not only individual meals, but also income-generating gifts like livestock, sewing machines, fishing nets and rickshaws, and from this giving, God brings the increase.[4]

Palan Haldar relied on fishing for his income since he came from a very poor family that had no land to work or live on. He had only one small, poor-quality fishing net, but through a GFA gift distribution, Palan received a better net that helped him start his fishing business. Now, he can meet his family’s daily nutritional needs.[5] That is just one story out of many about the difference a single gift can make.

Consider joining GFA World as we continue to obey the Bible verses about giving to others. Partner with us by donating toward life-changing gifts. It doesn’t take much to help alleviate the cycle of poverty and show God’s love in a practical and real way.[6]
