What Is an Ambassador for Christ?
As we question, “What is an ambassador for Christ?” let us picture people bringing a message of love, hope and transformation into lives that may never have experienced such things. This role is made explicit in the words of the apostle Paul to the Corinthians, reminding believers that they are “ambassadors for Christ,” through whom God were making his appeal (2 Cor. 5:20). Ambassadors as though God is extending His invitation to reconciliation carry a message far beyond borders. The concept of an ambassador in ancient times paralleled modern diplomatic roles, with representatives sent to foreign lands bearing the authority and message of their sovereign. Christ’s ambassadors speak about compassion, reconciliation, and the restoration of communities beyond borders and cultures. GFA World is committed to nurturing this vision of compassionate ambassadorship by settling individuals within these needy communities, mainly in Africa and Asia, as beacons of hope.
The Biblical Foundation of Ambassadorship
The ministry of reconciliation originates in God’s own heart, not human initiative. In 2 Corinthians 5:18-19, Paul explains that God reconciled the world to Himself through Jesus Christ, entrusting believers with this message of reconciliation. This is not a call to convert through persuasion, but to demonstrate the transforming power of God’s love through acts of service. As ambassadors, believers represent a Kingdom not of this world, speaking and acting on behalf of a King whose authority transcends all earthly powers.
The provision of clean water is a very critical aspect of the work of GFA World. Access to clean water remains a global crisis, with approximately 2 billion people living in water-stressed countries as of 2021. In regions where safe drinking water is not easily available, our national missionaries and pastors strive to come up with a significant solution to reduce illness from waterborne diseases and enhance life. Microbiologically contaminated water can transmit diseases such as diarrhea, cholera, dysentery, typhoid and polio, causing an estimated 505,000 diarrhoeal deaths each year. The impact of these relational, hands-on ambassadors providing wells and water filters to their communities is deeply felt as countless lives are changed.
A Story of Faith and Perseverance
In a village facing severe water scarcity, particularly from March to June, GFA-World Pastor Oisin and volunteers set out to drill a well to alleviate the burden on residents like Elouise, who recalled walking hours for just a pot of water during past droughts. This reality mirrors the experience of millions, as women and girls in developing countries walk an average of 3.7 miles daily to collect water for their families. Despite encountering obstacles like large rocks and skepticism from locals, the believers persisted in drilling, praying for God’s provision of water. Finally, at 33 feet, they struck an abundant water source, a successful outcome they attributed to faith and perseverance. The new well, aptly named a “Jesus Well,” now provides much-needed clean water and has transformed this community.[1]
Demonstrating Christ’s Love Through Service
The Holy Spirit empowers believers to serve with compassion and wisdom. Through the Spirit’s guidance, ambassadors for Christ discern genuine needs and respond with both practical help and spiritual encouragement. GFA World’s national missionaries demonstrate unrelenting love and care that transforms lives. The ministry of GFA World is holistic; by meeting physical and emotional needs, it will, over time, lead individuals out of impotence and into hope. In developing countries, about 80% of illnesses are linked to poor water and sanitation conditions, making clean water provision a life-saving intervention. Ambassadors help people find relief from physical problems and give them a sense of purpose and belonging. The transformation extends beyond physical health into emotional and spiritual renewal, as communities witness tangible demonstrations of God’s care. While the role of an ambassador for Christ may indeed be spiritual in nature, loving and compassionate actions are what inspire others to seek after The Source of hope and renewal.
